Research Group for Innovative Waste Processing

We analyze waste and environmental matrices and study the processes leading to their further treatment or utilization. We apply various partial and combined procedures to these materials, which aim to limit toxicity, reduce the quantity of undesirable substances emitted into environmental components, or appropriately modify their properties for further use.

A key area of interest is the use of innovative techniques, materials, and procedures, with an effort to streamline and enhance the efficiency of process conditions. This paves the way for the verification of our research findings on a larger scale, in pilot installations, or for practical application.

Physicochemical Treatment of Solid Waste and Sludge, Landfilling

  • Stabilization/Solidification of waste and sludge
  • Landfill leachate treatment and monitoring
  • Thermal desorption of waste
  • Application of microwave technology for the removal of contaminants and pathogens

Properties and Utilization of Low-Value Materials in Environmental Engineering  

  • Utilization of ash
  • Application of materials as adsorbents, binders, carriers, fillers, and additives in various processes
  • Possibilities for recovering selected components from by-products and waste

Treatment of Specific Industrial Wastewaters and Runoff from Paved Surfaces

  • Removal of organic pollution, removal of heavy metals
  • Infiltration and treatment of anthropogenic runoff
  • Adsorption, advanced oxidation, biodegradation
