Radek Škarohlíd, Ph.D.

I completed my Master’s degree in Environmental Chemistry and Technology in 2013 at the Faculty of Environmental Technology (University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague – UCT Prague), where I also defended my Ph.D. thesis in 2021. I have been with the Department of Environmental Chemistry since 2013, initially as a doctoral student and subsequently as an assistant professor.

My research focuses on advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) for the removal of organic contaminants from aqueous and subsurface environments. My primary focus is in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) using persulfate (peroxydisulfate) — investigating activation mechanisms by chelated iron and sulfidated nanoscale zero-valent iron (S-nZVI), the influence of matrix constituents on oxidation efficiency, and the fate of the oxidant in geological formations. In recent years, I have been extensively studying the degradation of benzophenone-type UV filters and identifying their transformation products. Additionally, I explore interactions between abiotic and biological remediation approaches.
